We were travelling over to our friend's house close to Saltaire at the weekend for Sunday lunch. We thought we'd set off a little earlier to take a browse around Salts Mill. We seem to have a trip annually, and we were due! When you step into this beautiful building, you are greeted by the intoxicating smell of fresh lilies. Wherever & whenever I smell them now, I am transported to this beautiful place, where the light streams through those gigantic mill windows.
We made the obligatory visit to the amazing book and homeware shops, and had time to take in a cup of tea in the cafe, surrounded by brunching locals and visitors. The mill is the perfect location to showcase David Hockney's work, and both me and Suzi loved 'The Arrival of Spring'. We had watched a fascinating documentary about this body of work, and had wanted to see them for a while. They are iPad drawings printed on paper that depict the gradual change from winter to spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire. Such a blast of colour, and with spring in the air outside for the first time this year, it seemed very fitting for a sunny Sunday.
