THE FEELING OF HOME: VAn LIFE

Filmed August 2020, North Wales

A couple of summers ago I was asked to make a film about a family’s beloved old caravan. The family were in a time of transition. They were on the cusp of getting a new van as they wanted a little more space for their weekend breaks.

But they had spent so many weekends here, in their home from home, that it was hard for them to say goodbye. The van held so many of their fondest memories together as a family.

Making this film reminded me so much of my childhood, and weekends spent with my Grandma at her friend’s caravan in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. As soon as I heard the click click click of their gas stove, I was pulled right back to those glorious summer days, and knew I wanted the sound to introduce the film.

In the morning when you open the blinds again, it’s like you’re seeing the spot that you fell in love with over again. And it just hits you, we’re back. Back where we’re happy. This is our home from home.
